What is STEM?

The word STEM is an acronym that emerged in the 2000s. It consists of the initials of the words Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It is based on the idea of eliminating the drawbacks of teaching science-related fields separately from each other rather than as a whole in primary and secondary education. More and more importance is being given in the world, especially in Europe and the USA. STEM from a different perspective; putting theoretical knowledge into practice and producing products can be called STEM.

What is a Maker Workshop?

Maker Atölyesi

Maker literally means "constructor" or "creator". In today's popular culture "maker movement" motto is "do it yourself". Makers are the producers. Folding a carton and making a hat or printing a piece of a broken toy from a 3D printer is a maker workshop activity. In short, the laboratory where the makers perform their activities is called the maker workshop. Today, it is aimed to teach our children how to use technological abilities and to create new things with maker workshops that are important and especially spread in private schools.

Robotik Atölyesi

What is Robotics Workshop?

The robotics workshop is actually a kind of maker workshop. The main difference of the robotics workshop is that it focuses more on robots made up of coding and electronic parts. In the robotics workshop, children enter the world of robotics and coding. The word ROBOT stands for fonksiyon multifunctional machines that carry or process substances according to the work to be carried out in programmed movements ”. Each robotic workshop can use different materials. The most preferred sets are Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Ubitech Jimu, We Do, Lego Mindstrom, Lego Boost.

STEM Laboratuvarı

How Should be a STEM, Robotic and Maker Workshop Environment

Both STEM Laboratories and Maker or Robotics Workshops should be designed for the age group. The design for primary school children will not be the same as middle and high school levels. BrauLAB designs unique workshops to suit you and your goals. The most important point to be considered at this point is that the infrastructure and furniture should be designed before the material sets are taken. The space to be chosen must be large. Space organizers to be made in narrow spaces will result in low yield, increase in error and waste rate. It will also pave the way for accidents and security weaknesses. Select a well ventilated room. Basement floors which are not exposed to light and have poor ventilation are definitely not suitable for this job.

How should STEM, Maker and Robotics Workshop Furniture be?

The number one cause of human error is carelessness. Therefore, it is important not to design these workshops as overly colored, complex environments that disrupt the concentration of children. This situation will threaten the safety of children who will make the application on an individual or group basis, and will result in a decrease in efficiency and quality. Furniture to be selected in Stem, robotic or maker workshops should be ergonomic, with a wide range of storage areas and large use surfaces. BrauLAB offers you a wide range of furniture and infrastructure options for locations such as STEM Workshop, Maker Workshop and Robotics Workshop.
